13 : Unresolved Grand Finale

Engage Kiss' final episode strikes a fine balance between resolving the anime's primary plot threads while also leaving some unresolved storylines and character arcs of all sorts. This teases viewers about the possibility of a Season 2, or at least a continuation of the story in a mobile game in the broader Project Engage franchise, to which the Engage Kiss anime belongs. This also helps prove that even when victory is claimed, real life can be messy and not all questions will be answered so conveniently. There is just enough resolution here to satisfy viewers and restore peace in Bayron City while also tantalizing viewers with open-ended questions that involve most of the main cast, Kisara included. This even includes the broader cyberpunk theme of a tyrannical, all-seeing government and the people rising up against it.

13 : Unresolved Grand Finale

That's debatable here at EW, but what's not is that 13 Reasons Why left a host of loose ends dangling as the final credits streamed on Netflix. Ahead, a look at every major cliffhanger left unresolved.

At the end of the penultimate episode of 13 Reasons Why, we learned a young male was being rushed to the hospital as the result of a gunshot wound to the head. Nearly the entire finale passed before the boy's identity was revealed: it was Alex (Miles Heizer), who was last seen onscreen organizing his closet and hearing from his dad that he wouldn't need to sit through the deposition. Did Alex attempt suicide? Was he shot by someone else? Will he survive? Those questions loom large at the end of season 1 and finding out the answers seems like a good starting point for where season 2 (if it ever happens) might pick up.

Lainie Jensen (Amy Hargreaves) working on the case when Clay is a suspect/witness never came to a complete head until the very end of the finale. This was a ludicrous conflict of interest that a season 2 would likely have to resolve immediately.

Hannah's parents (Kate Walsh and Brian d'Arcy James) finally received their daughter's last words in the finale and the tapes should play a major part in their lawsuit against the school.

Halfway during the finale, I was convinced that the murder plot was one big fake-out, as Tanya spent a paranoid evening on a boat with Quentin and his friends, becoming convinced that they intended to kill her. But as the finale wore on and Jack was revealed to have been deliberately distracting Portia, even dropping his mask and warning her to stay away from whatever was going on with Tanya, it seems almost certain that the murder plot was true.

We last saw the real Brenner (not a supernatural projection of him) on the season one finale. When the Demogorgon broke through into the middle school, it leapt onto Brenner. Technically we never saw him die, nor did we see a body. But would he really have survived?

Throughout the first season finale, Hopper had several flashbacks about his daughter Sara. We saw her alive and healthy, but having what looked like a panic attack at a very young age. Then Hopper remembered reading "Anne of Green Gables" to her in a hospital bed, and her head was shaved.

In a series with this much to offer, it's inevitable that plenty of questions are left unresolved due to the amount of content. Although many initial questions from early One Piece have since been acknowledged or answered, there still lies several mysteries within this tremendous body of work.

As mentioned above, much of Luffy's past is still a mystery. Luffy's own father was a mystery up until his grandfather revealed his identity. But seeing as that reveal occurred hundreds of episodes ago, it still leaves the question of Luffy's mother. Luffy hasn't even thought to talk about her with his closest companions.

To be fair, this unresolved mystery is obviously going to be addressed at some point, Both Joy Boy and Laugh Tale have appeared as plot elements in almost every arc of the story, only increasing as time goes on. Even Kaido himself talked about Joy Boy during his fight with Luffy, so it's clear that the mysterious journey and origins of this character play a big role in the mystery of One Piece itself.

Though it has yet to be announced if there will be a second season of the show, the end of the first installment definitely left the door wide open for another season. Hannah's parents are currently in the middle of a lawsuit against the school (an aspect that was a completely original idea to the series) and was left unresolved. During the final episode, Tony gave Hannah's parents a USB filled with the audio files of Hannah's tapes. At the end of the episode, they began to listen to it and no doubt they'll be submitting what's on it into evidence, which would most likely win them the case.

Besides the lawsuit, those who were on Hannah's tapes were greatly affected by what was on them. Justin finally told Jessica that she was raped by Bryce and in the finale it appeared that Jessica was going to tell her father what happened. This could open up another lawsuit, this time with Bryce being the guilty party.

More pressing is the state in which Alex was left in. In the last moments of the finale it was revealed that Alex shot himself in the head and was in critical condition. Will he survive or will this be another suicide the school may be held responsible for?

It really looked like all of the Dothraki's flaming swords went out at the Battle of Winterfell. A few scattered soldiers came riding back with Jorah, but there weren't enough of them left to fill out a baseball roster, let alone sack a city. Yet in the finale, Daenerys had an entire army made up of hundreds of Dothraki.

Conspicuously absent from Flux were the Daleks, but that's because Chibnall was saving them for the first holiday special, Eve of the Daleks, which aired on New Year's Day. The special introduced a new kind of Dalek, the Dalek Executioners, who sought revenge on the Doctor for her actions in the S13 finale. The Doctor and her companions Yaz and Dan were caught in a time loop, thanks to a TARDIS reset (necessary to repair the TARDIS from damage incurred from the Flux). Every time the loop reset, it would shorten by one minute and was destined to collapse entirely at midnight.

Then, some fans online have suggested that Ann Gallagher (Charlie Murphy) could become integral in the finale. Series three has been brilliantly showing the ongoing implications of her hideous kidnap ordeal from the previous series.

Both series will reach their respective conclusions today, but as Engage Kiss fans countdown to the season 1 finale, many are looking ahead to the possibility of a second date. Whilst Engage Kiss has not yet been publicly renewed for season 2, what are the chances that the anime series returns for a second broadcast?

  • Web Animation Daddy Spider was made in response to the success of Lucas the Spider, and followed Lucas' father as he looked for his son. However, due to copyright violations, the shorts were removed and the account was deleted, leaving his situation unresolved.

  • Hero High, a The Legend of Zelda High School AU, ended on episode 3 once production company Machinima went under. Sister company Rooster Teeth has featured it in the anthology Neon Konbini.

  • Justin Roiland's short-lived series House of Cosbys was cancelled because of a cease and desist from one of Bill Cosby's attorneys. As a result, a lot of plot threads were left unresolved, such as Cosby 10 and Mitchell finding out why aliens attacked the compound, Evil Cosby's intentions, and Cosbyette giving birth to Mitchell's child.

  • Has happened to many, many Object Shows, to the point that it is considered the exception, not the norm, for a show to complete its run. A few noteworthy examples: Perhaps the biggest name was Battle for Dream Island: while it was able to wrap up both its first and fourth seasons, the second came to an abrupt halt after five episodes, and the third did likewise after only one.

  • Battle for Object Destination was cut short in the middle of a Multi-Part Episode. While it attempted to continue as the spin-off show Earthquake, that ended up being canned as well once creator Maxwell Hall was caught attempting to groom a minor.

  • Object Havoc only lasted two episodes before the creator lost interest and cancelled the third.

  • A similar trajectory befell the Ruder and Cruder Object Redundancy - two episodes, and a third in production before the plug was pulled.

  • Object Overload's original run sputtered out after six episodes. An attempted Continuity Reboot failed to follow up with a second.

  • The Sock Series was planned to be a quadrilogy, but development on Rictus of Sock was unfortunately halted when the creator chose to pursue another project.

  • The Dragon Age machinima series Warden's Fall ends just after Kristoff tracks down Cyril, who had been bringing human sacrifices to the Mother's servants to feed her hunger. Cyril kills himself by jumping off a building and Kristoff stalks off having reached a dead end in his investigation. Apparently a sixth episode was planned but was never made.

  • Into Tagalog Kamen Rider BLACK only got up to the penultimate episode, and the finale never aired or got dubbed, leaving Pinoy viewers to wait years until an English fansub of the last episode to see the end of the series.

  • Kousoku Sentai Turboranger only got until the first appearance of Super Turbo Robo. After that it started airing again on episode 2 (As episode 1 (The episode looking back from Battle Fever J to Liveman) didn't get dubbed and aired).

In one of the most bonkers finales of any police procedural I can remember in a long day's march(ella), we finally discovered the truth about the serial killer in ITV's Monday night murder, madness and mayhem thriller. 041b061a72
