3 Credit Reports

Credit reports list your bill payment history, loans, current debt, and other financial information. They show where you work and live and whether you've been sued, arrested, or filed for bankruptcy.

3 credit reports

Credit reports help lenders decide if they'll give you credit or approve a loan. The reports also help determine what interest rate they will charge you. Employers, insurers, and rental property owners may also look at your credit report. You won't know which credit report a creditor or employer will use to check your credit.

Credit reporting agencies (CRAs) collect and maintain information for your credit reports. Each CRA manages its own records and might not have information about all your accounts. Even though there are differences between their reports, no agency is more important than the others. And the information each agency has must be accurate.

Check your credit reports regularly to make sure that your personal and financial information is accurate. It also helps to make sure nobody's opened fraudulent accounts in your name. If you find errors on your credit report, take steps to have them corrected.

Making sure your credit report is accurate ensures your credit score can be too. You can have multiple credit scores. The credit reporting agencies that maintain your credit reports do not calculate these scores. Instead, different companies or lenders who have their own credit scoring systems create them.

A medical history report is a summary of your medical conditions. Insurance companies use these reports to decide if they will offer you insurance. You have the right to get a copy of your report from MIB, the company that manages and owns the reporting database.

Trilegiant Corporation, Trilegiant Insurance Services, Inc., Alliance Marketing Association and their credit information subcontractors shall not have any liability for the accuracy of the information contained in the credit reports or Credit Alert reports which you receive, including any liability for damages, direct or indirect, consequential or incidental. Daily monitoring will notify you of certain new inquiries and derogatory information, accounts, public records, or change of address that have been added to your credit reports as reported by one of the major credit reporting agencies. If no information has been added or changed, then you will receive a monthly notification stating that no information has changed within their credit file.

Credit reports are compiled by three major companies called credit bureaus, also known as credit reporting agencies or consumer reporting companies. Read on to learn what credit bureaus are, what information they collect and how your credit reports impact your credit scores.

Equifax, Experian and TransUnion are the three major credit bureaus in the U.S. According to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), credit bureaus are companies that compile and sell credit reports.

Besides the three main credit bureaus, Equifax, Experian and TransUnion, there are also specialty reporting agencies that collect much more specific information about you. As the CFPB explains, these agencies might collect data and create reports based on information like apartment rental payments, insurance claims, medical payments and more.

Credit bureaus compile this information into credit reports that lenders use to help predict how likely you are to repay debts on time. Lenders might use credit reports, along with other information, to help decide things like whether to approve you for credit, what interest rate to offer you and how to set your credit limit.

Other businesses might check your credit too. Insurance companies might use credit reports to decide on applications or set insurance rates. Or landlords might use them to decide whether to lease someone an apartment.

Separate from the three credit bureaus, Equifax, Experian and TransUnion, are credit scoring companies, such as VantageScore and FICO. They use mathematical formulas called scoring models along with information from your credit reports to calculate credit scores.

A model might use information from just one or a combination of different credit reports. Then, each credit scoring model might assign different levels of importance to that information. Credit scores generally range from 300 to 850, and your score may depend on information like your payment history, total outstanding debt and credit mix.

Each credit bureau issues its own report, so there could be three different credit reports with your name. You can request just one of the three, or all of them by reaching out to the bureaus directly. You can also request your credit report through your bank. For example, you can access your free Experian credit report when you enroll in Chase Credit Journey.

One credit bureau is not necessarily used more over another. Credit bureaus are used for different services, including credit reports, credit scores and tools like identity monitoring. Experian, Equifax and TransUnion are all respected, credible bureaus that are used widely.

The three major credit bureaus all collect similar types of information but compile and calculate that information in different ways. Understanding how each bureau tabulates your credit score is critical to improving your overall financial knowledge. If you know what the different credit score ranges are for each bureau, you can get a well-rounded idea of how healthy your credit is. Using the reports from all three credit bureaus can provide you with the insight and understanding necessary to make important financial choices.

You are entitled to free copies of your credit reports from all three major bureaus at least once a year. You can request them at the official website for that purpose: AnnualCreditReport.com. If you find any errors, you have a right to challenge them, and the credit bureau is required to investigate.

The information in your credit reports is also used in calculating your credit score. The two major credit-scoring companies are FICO (formerly Fair Isaac Corp.) and VantageScore. Their scores are calculated based on proprietary models and can differ based on the type of loan for which you are applying.

CreditSecure offers a variety of benefits to help Card Members stay on top of their credit and identity. Credit Monitoring includes FICO Score tracking and alerts, 3 Bureau Credit reports and monitoring, and credit utilization and credit limit alerts. Identity monitoring includes features such as dark web surveillance, real-time identity alerts, and child monitoring for your enrolled children. Additionally, you can speak to fraud assistance agents if you suspect fraud.

The 3 Major Credit Bureaus (Experian, Equifax, and TransUnion) each collect and report information in different ways. While much of their information might be similar, being able to view all three reports gives you the most comprehensive view of your credit information.

Checking your own credit report has no effect on your credit score. In fact, it's recommended that you regularly review your reports so that you can stay current on your credit status. CreditSecure will automatically generate your FICO Score 8 once per month. Additionally, your FICO Score 8 is also calculated when you request your 3 Bureau Credit report, which you can do once every 30 days.

CreditSecure is not a credit repair organization. It cannot act to improve your credit report, history or score. It also cannot resolve fraudulent activity on your credit reports. CreditSecure cannot directly change accurate adverse information on your report. If you believe your credit report is inaccurate, you must notify the report's issuer.

The FCRA allows you to obtain all of the information in your consumer credit file from any consumer credit reporting company for a reasonable charge. The FCRA allows consumers to get one free comprehensive report of all of the information in their credit file from each of the 3 Major Bureaus once every 12 months through a central source. Georgia residents can receive two reports per year. To request your free annual report under the FCRA, you must go to www.annualcreditreport.com. CreditSecure is not related to the free FCRA report that you are or may be entitled to. The FCRA also states that you are entitled to receive a report directly from the consumer credit reporting company free of charge under the following circumstances: You have been denied credit, insurance or employment in the past 60 days as a result of your credit report;

Credit reports obtained through CreditSecure may not have the same information as credit reports obtained directly from the 3 Major Bureaus or pursuant to the free annual FCRA report that you are entitled to.
